The Barron River electorate is surely one of the most beautiful and diverse natural environments in Australia.

From its coastal wetlands, complete with sandy beaches, mangroves and melaleucas, to the pure streams that tumble from the rainforest clad mountains, from the savannah grasslands to the edge of the Great Barrier Reef – this is our home and our heritage – ours to enjoy, protect and preserve.

 

But as its custodians, we also face challenges. We have an ever-increasing need for employment, housing roads and schools. We need health services, law enforcement and farms. And we have hundreds of thousands of visitors who seek to share this wonderful place with us.

Communities and government must cooperate to find the right balance between development and preservation of the environment.

 

With this in mind, it would be my privilege to represent this electorate and its people in the Queensland Parliament.
